Off Season Content

Happy New Year from the Fantasy Football Analytics team and we hope all of our readers had successful playoff runs.

As part of our recurring monthly subscription, we have refined and expanded our tools to help you get ready for next season.  Unlike other sites, our tools are available throughout the year, including the off-season.  For more info about FFA Insider including what you get and how to subscribe, see here.  Below is a description of some of the important off-season content you can use to prepare for next season.

Historical Projections

Using the app, you’ll be able to see projections and actual performance all the way back to 2008.  Just select the Year/Week under “General Settings”.  Note that you’ll need an FFA Insider subscription to download historical projections.

Accuracy Chart

The historical data can also be used in our Accuracy plot to help you determine which projections were the most accurate and find the optimal mix of sources.  Note that you’ll need an FFA Insider subscription to examine the accuracy of historical projections.

Custom Tiers

You can also customize your tiers.  Unlike other site’s tiers, our tiers are determined empirically and take into account the distribution of each player’s projected points (not just the average projection).  We use Cohen’s d to determine whether two players are in the same or a different tier.  Cohen’s d is the most common measure of “effect size“.  Cohen’s d estimates the magnitude of difference between two players’ distributions of projected points.  We set a default threshold of 1.0, corresponding to a large effect size, for determining whether two players are in different tiers (if two players have a Cohen’s d greater than 1, they will be considered to be in different tiers).  Users can customize their tiers by changing the Cohens d thresholds in the app (under “General Settings”).  If you want more players in the same tier (i.e., fewer tiers), make the threshold values larger.  If you want fewer players in the same tier (i.e., more tiers), make the threshold values smaller.

We’re also always looking for feedback, so if you have any ideas on features or analyses you would like to see, drop us a line below!

      Hey Josh,

We are actively updating the scripts for this season, and are working on obtaining the data for those sites where it’s currently available. We’re hoping to have the data out sometime this month.

      Cheers,
      Isaac
