Introducing 2020 Projections

  • — 12 Aug, 2020

We have updated our Shiny App and API with projections for the 2020 fantasy football season. The projections incorporate our balanced “wisdom of the crowd” approach and have been the most accurate projections over the last several years. The data from previous years is also available to compare the accuracy of our sources.

Our gold mining chart can be used during a draft to compare ADP to projections to find undervalued and high upside players as well as in season to pick a winning lineup. You can access the Projections tool via the app here:

http://apps.fantasyfootballanalytics.net

A preview of our 2020 Projections

For instructions on how to use the app, see here.  We also have a Draft Optimizer tool (see here).  See our articles on how to win your Snake Draft and Auction Draft.  We will be updating the projections as the season approaches with more sources of projections.

In order to access the most advanced features of the app, you will need a subscription to FFA Insider. A FFA Insider subscription will allow you to save unlimited custom settings, download historical projections, examine the accuracy of historical projections, and more.

We also have an API that you can use to access our projections. You can find more information about our API here.

Was not including rookies done on purpose, or an oversight?

The player table populates in the Projections Tab and below the Lineup Optimizer, but the suggested lineup at the top of the page is empty. It just says “No data available in table”.

Here’s a little more feedback on the lineup optimizer, it works if I’m not signed in, but doesn’t if I am signed in. I’ve confirmed this on 3 different browsers on different machines. I created a new account to see if it was my league settings but the same thing happened. Thanks for all your hard work on this awesome tool and I hope the optimizer gets sorted out so I can input my leagues scoring settings!

while there’s a few minor hiccups with the 2020 update, just wanted to say thank you for making such a great tool. i look forward to using it every year.

only other thing i noticed that hasn’t been mentioned was the projections for returns, but i’m assuming that will get updated once the final rosters are closer to being set.

again, thank you so much for the hard work on this. this has been a vital tool for both drafting and setting my weekly lineup. besides determining VOR, i have yet to find a weekly projections site that is as detailed on the scoring settings i’m in a league with return points, and this has helped me spot the few WR that get decent targets along with returns.

I noticed a large difference in the number of players at each position vs. last year and dropped by to leave a comment; noticed others mentioned no rookies. Is that the sole reason? If so, that’s a ton of rookies! Here’s 2019 vs. 2020:

    2019:
    QB: 110 players
    RB: 221 players
    WR: 316 players
    TE: 157 players

    2020:
    QB: 64 players
    RB: 83 players
    WR: 89 players
    TE: 84 players

(Not sure about the other position-types as we don’t use them).

did you find the reason for the difference? Is the list complete enough to reply upon for drafting?

      • loupalladino says:
        August 23, 2020 at 7:48 am

I have not. Looks like a bunch of players have been added however; here’s the latest tally:

        QB: 74 players
        RB: 147 players
        WR: 179 players
        TE: 111 players

I would at least wait until the rookie issue is resolved, and then you can decide if its complete enough. That would all depend on your league/draft, in my opinion, but I would expect it to be sufficient enough for most league setups.

    Hi Isaac,
I had a similar problem last year where ESPN AAV and ADP values are not coming up in my tables. When I go average for those values or use another site as the benchmark it does come up. Is there any way to fix this as I draft on ESPN and their values heavily influence my league mates. Thanks!

    Hi Isaac,

I have enjoyed your site the past several years and recently renewed my insider subscription to prep for fantasy football this year.

Unfortunately, it is having all sorts of issues so far. I tried a mock draft on Yahoo and here is what I experienced.

Google Chrome – Only message I get in the lower left is Disconnected from the server – Reload.

Chrome Incognito – same message as google chrome.

Internet explorer – Lineup optimizer loads with no team information at the top. Just a list of players at the bottom. I attempted to go to projections > tables and then go back to optimizer and it still doesn’t work. It says ‘No data available in table’

Firefox – If I go to projections > table and then go to optimizer the table loads. But the first person I pick from the table, it disappears.

I tried Chrome on another device:

Google Chrome – If I go to projections > table and then go to optimizer the table loads. But the first person I pick from the table, it disappears.

Chrome Incognito – If I go to projections > table and then go to optimizer the table loads. But the first person I pick from the table, it disappears.

I was just wondering if you were aware of these issues and if you were working on them. Our real draft in a week from today and I would really love to use this.

Let me know if you need any more explanation.

The Projections themselves are sound. I have a draft on Saturday, so the only course of action I can take is to do my rankings based off FFA projections as I usually do, then go in and manually slot all the rookies in. I’ll probably use NumberFire to do that. Its going to be more labor intensive but I don’t really have a choice at this point.

I’ve done a few mocks on Yahoo and things are working great on Yahoo. One thing I was wondering with the lineup optimizer (auction draft) why towards the end does it grey out the ‘pick’ buttons on some players? Is it a setting I have wrong?

The reason I ask is there were some players that didn’t get drafted until late and were way undervalued (for example, AAV was $20 and the player went for $4). But the pick button was greyed out and I couldn’t add to my roster for a $4 bid. Anyone know why this would be? Thanks!

Isaac is there a way to get individualized AAV from the different sites, ESPN, YAHOO etc into the auction optimizer? Right now the cost calculation only works if you use average across all sites. But those values are way off compared to each site so the cost calculations do not work when you are doing mocks. It would be nice to select ESPN or yahoo and then get the up to date AAV.

(My sense is that you exclude sources behind paywalls, sources that are composites themselves, sources that aren’t ready, sources that are duplicates (e.g. one source provides the projections for another source). Which all makes sense.)

I notice that ESPN, Yahoo, and NFL.com are all excluded at the moment, although I think they were included in some prior years? Why are you not including those sources this year?

The risk factors seem off or abnormally low this year. Is there any explanation for this? It would be hard to believe that most players are 1 SD below the mean.

Also, do you only strictly use data sources that include projections? Historically speaking, Justin Boone and Pat Fitzmaurice have been 2 of the most accurate rankers in fantasy football for 5 years running.

Is the app down? I’ve followed the FAQ and tried multiple browsers/ OS and I’m getting the disconnected from server message.

        Hey Issac,

Thanks for fixing the issue. I noticed that download is now disable. Is this a new expected behavior for free accounts?

Not sure if it’s a bug, but it looks like if click on another tab (from table to adp vs projections), the download button is then accessible.

I’m trying to update my projections with the most recent information. the download link in the table tab is grayed out and when I mouse over it I get the circle with the slash. I’ve made sure my ad block is off and same sites by default is disabled. It’s the same whether I’m signed in or not and whether I’m using customized projections or not. I was able to download just two nights ago but now I’m stuck.
I’m not seeing anything about this in the FAQ but if I missed it, what section was it under.
    Thanks

Same problem. Don’t see the tabs Sonny mentions for the workaround though. Only see Gold Mine, Table, and Density Plot tabs. The table is also now missing a number of fields it had a few days ago.

There seems to be a bug in the Lineup Optimizer with regards specifically to Leonard Fournette. He’s appearing twice (as a FA and TB player) and is being inserted in optimal lineups twice. When I try to click his name to exclude, the app immediately disconnects from server. Any chance for a quick fix?

Anybody having any luck getting to the data? I have run thru the entire set of FAQ’s & the message about being disconnected from the server disappeared. The site actually worked briefly earlier today. Now I just obtain an endless white screen. It’s a great site, but difficult to access the data. Any recommendations on a fix are greatly appreciated!

Nothing is working and my draft is in an hour. All I get is “Disconnected from the server” I’ve tried all of your various steps. No dice. Trying Chrome, Safari & Firefox. No dice. This is really unfortunate, given that I donate to you guys monthly.

Love the app and it’s helped me in past years, but today the Auction Draft Lineup optimizer is recommending that I draft four separate instances of Leonard Fournette (two of the free agent Fournettes and two of the TB Fournettes) as the ideal lineup. For obvious reasons, I can’t fill my whole lineup with four Leonard Fournettes. Clicking on Fournette to make him “drafted” and remove him from the pool of available players crashes the app. This behavior doesn’t occur with any other players – I can draft anyone else except him. Projections and everything else works well, only the optimizer is affected. Is this happening to anyone else? Any chance it could be fixed? If not you’ve still created an awesome app and I just wont use that feature.

Week 1 projections messed up. Likely averaging season projections from some sources with weekly from others.

These projections really are the best. Thank you for compiling these. It’s much appreciated. One question. Is there any chance that you add 1st Downs as a statisical category at some point in the future? I play in a Point Per First Down League and it would be super helpful. Thanks again!
